The model files included in the directory with this README file are derived from the model described in the Balleau Groundwater, Inc. report HYDROLOGIC MODEL OF BIG BEND GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT dated June 23, 2010. Specifically the model files are adapted to enhance performance in the area of the Wet Walnut Creek Basin. The completed enhancements are described below. 1. The 2010 model overstated baseflow at the Nekoma gage and understated baseflow at the Albert gage. We inspected surface-water catchment areas and modified the precipitation and runoff relationships to develop an improved model representation of baseflow at the Nekoma and Albert gages. 2. Representation of the alluvial aquifer structure in the valley of Walnut Creek has been improved. We refined the structural representation based on the geologic mapping of the Kansas Geological Survey (1992) and on the work of Latta (1950), McNellis (1973), Neuhauser (1996) and data from the WWC5 (2013) database. 3. The simulated streambed conductance and river stage has been adjusted to refine the distribution of recharge to the aquifer from runoff events. 4. We adjusted the hydraulic conductivity beneath Cheyenne Bottoms to reflect the permeability of fine-grained sediments that have been logged in the ponds. The previous specification did not represente fine-grained sediments at the base of the ponds. Charts of observed and simulated flows at the Nekoma and Albert gages located along the Wet Walnut Creek, after a applying the enhancements described above, are shown in file "Flow_Nekoma_Albert_gages.pdf", which is also located in the directory with this README file.
